Reclaim Yourself runs yoga and wellbeing retreats abroad, and I travel with them to photograph the trips. This gallery covers a week in Costa Rica: sunrise yoga on the beach, a hike into the jungle, and the group conversations and coaching sessions that make up as much of a Reclaim Yourself retreat as the poses do. I've also shot with them in Iceland and Tuscany.
The brief for this kind of work isn't really photograph yoga, it's photograph what happens around it: the quiet after a pose lands, a circle of people mid conversation, someone laughing at a laptop on a terrace. I shoot the retreat as it actually runs, staying close enough to catch the unguarded moment without stepping into it, in light that changes by the hour, sunrise gold to flat midday to storm grey Pacific cloud. That's the difference between a retreat looking like a brochure and looking like somewhere you'd actually want to be.
