Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025

Capturing the spirit and power of women’s rugby
The Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 was a defining moment in women’s sport and a landmark chapter in my work as a female rugby editorial photographer.
Commissioned by Rugby Journal to produce a 20-page photo essay, I covered 13 matches across Sunderland, Brighton, Bristol, York and Northampton, capturing the intensity, athleticism and emotional depth of a tournament that reflected the extraordinary growth and cultural impact of women’s rugby in the UK.
From the collision and power on the pitch to the unity, pride and anticipation in the stands, my approach to photographing the Women’s Rugby World Cup 2025 extended beyond action alone. I set out to document the human stories surrounding the game with depth, care and integrity: the generational shift, the generosity, the belief and the shared pride that defined this tournament. Being there was about more than covering elite competition; it was about contributing a female perspective to the visual history of women’s rugby and creating editorial photography that holds performance, atmosphere and cultural meaning in the same frame.
