Motorsport Photography and Athlete Portraits
I photographed Chloe Chong at Brands Hatch as she prepared for the 2024 British F4 season. This series brings those test-day photographs together with running portraits, following the preparation behind her racing. Having competed in F1 Academy in 2023, Chloe was developing her experience in single-seater motorsport. The photographs look closely at that stage of her career, from the practical details of getting ready in the garage to the concentration visible in the cockpit and the movement of the car on track.
I brought the camera close to the preparation, framing Chloe through the equipment around her. A red coiled hose cuts across the garage photograph as she reaches for her helmet. In another frame, her eyes are visible beneath the raised visor while someone leans into the cockpit. These details give the pictures their sense of proximity. On track, the car stays clear against a blurred background, carrying the movement through the frame. The running portraits bring a different rhythm to the series, showing Chloe without the helmet and machinery around her. Placing these pictures together connects the driver we see in the car with the athlete preparing away from it.
