Sun Skater Shooting
Motion with Johnny Montero

Responsive Line

Sometimes, the best shoots start with nothing but a loose idea, a bit of daylight, and the will to make something move. This experimental motion video with Johnny Montero was one of those moments. Lockdown was just beginning to ease, and the wide-open spaces of East London’s docklands offered the perfect canvas. I strapped a camera to the back of my Vespa and followed Johnny, part skater, part dancer, part sunshine, as he rolled through the empty city with effortless rhythm. It was a shoot born out of curiosity and ingenuity, a reminder that limitations can actually unlock creativity.

Johnny, also known as The Sun Skater, has this infectious energy that just lights up on camera. He blends skating with dance, joy with precision and watching him move is like watching music take shape. Shooting motion like this is always part choreography, part chase. The balance between framing a moving subject and staying in the moment is where the magic happens. It’s that playful tension, the unpredictability of light, speed, and body language that makes motion work feel alive. And when the chemistry clicks, it shows. This was one of those shoots.
